In late 1971, police arrested over sixty people for “obscene and indecent” acts in a wooded area near the Iwo Jima Memorial; many of those detained complained they had been entrapped by undercover officers assigned to conduct arrests.
Throughout the month of January 1972, D.C.’s gay community engaged in its first series of open revolts against police harassment. #lgbthistory #HavePrideInHistory #Mood (at Iwo Jima War Memorial)
